Cover of Tesseracts Fifteen: A Case of Quite Curious Tales

Tesseracts 15

This is the spectacular cover to Tesseracts Fifteen: A Case of Quite Curious Tales, cover art by Michael Oswald. I’m very excited to be part of this volume! (No, the image has little to do with my story…unless she’s holding a stilt!)

“Silk and Shadow” Reviewed at Bibliophile Stalker

Charles Tan reviewed THE BEST OF BENEATH CEASELESS SKIES, YEAR ONE, at his blog Bibliophile Stalker, and rather liked it. He mentions my story “Silk and Shadow” and had this to say:

…”Silk and Shadow” by Tony Pi which embraces the epic nature it’s drawing inspiration from. The characters do not veer away from your initial expectations but what sets the story apart is its magic system and how the hero uses this to outwit his enemies. One could say this is a plot-driven narrative with a well thought-out cosmology and creative mystery. What adds oomph, however, is the way Pi fashions the ending which leaves room for ambiguity and fits the notions of a Tragedy.

Thanks, Charles!

Story Sale to Tesseracts 15

A short story sale to Tesseracts Fifteen: A Case of Quite Curious Tales (EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing). The theme for this anthology is young adult speculative fiction, and it’s edited by Julie Czerneda and Susan MacGregor. This will be my first appearance in this long-standing Canadian anthology series.

Congratulations to Mike Rimar from my writing group the Stop-Watch Gang, who also made it into the anthology. Our stories both went through the group’s critique process, so many thanks to the SWG.

Congratulations to My Writer Friends

First, a big congratulations to my friends who made the Nebula ballot – Vylar Kaftan, Chris Kastensmidt, Aliette de Bodard, J. Kathleen Cheney, Eric James Stone, Caroline Yoachim, and Mary Robinette Kowal. Good luck!

Also, congrats to Mike Rimar from my writing group The Stop-Watch Gang, who made his second pro sale. His story “Four Wizards and A Funeral” (what a great title!) will appear in Orson Scott Card’s Intergalactic Medicine Show in the near future. I hope it’s the same issue as mine (April 2011). Mike workshopped the story in the group, and I knew it would sell. Way to go, Mike!

Story Sale: “We Who Steal Faces” to OSC IGMS

A 23-day sale of a short story, “We Who Steal Faces”, to Orson Scott Card’s Intergalactic Medicine Show!

The story will appear in the April 2011 issue and is a tale of the Elect (see “The Paragon Lure” and “Metamorphoses in Amber“). This time the action is set in 1588. Like all IGMS stories, it will be illustrated. Really looking forward to it!
